Chinese Zodiac Feast
Lianhe Zaobao Chinese Zodiac CNY Feast @

Celebrating the Chinese zodiac in the Year of Horse, this gastronomic adventure re-created legends and myths in a sensorial experience that was second to none.
There are many versions regarding the origins of the Chinese Zodiac. The tale usually begins with the Jade Emperor, or Buddha, depending on the teller, who summoned all the animals of the universe for a race, or a banquet, depending on the teller. The 12 animals of the zodiac all headed to the palace. The order that they came in determined the order of the zodiac: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Ram, Monkey, Chicken, Dog and Pig.
The animals tried everything to try to win and got into different adventures during the journey, For example the rat won the race through guile and trickery – it jumped onto the back of the ox. The cunning snake hid on the hoof of a horse in order to cross a river. When they got to the other side, it scared the horse and beat it to the finishing line. The dragon however, proved to be honourable and altruistic- it would have won the race as it could fly, but along the way, it had stopped to help villagers cross a river safely
Together with Lianhe Zaobao food writer, Marcus Yeo, Executive Chinese Chef Li Kwok Kwong from Feng Shui Inn®, Celebrity Chef Sam Leong / Chef de Cuisine Mike Tan from Forest森 ® and Executive Pastry Chef Kenny Kong presented their culinary creations.
Millie's Enterprise was the official wine supplier for this event - presenting Covides Xenius Cava Rosado, Schmitt Sohne Relax Cool Red and Justino's Madeira Fine Rich to compliment these superb dishes.
Lots of games (Best God of Fortune lookalikes, Properous Bingo, Zodiac Paper cuttings, etc) and great prizes (including Hotel Stay, and wine & beer hampers), were given out! This Gala Luncheon was supported by over 480 loyal Lianhe Zaoboa's subscribers.
The luncheon started with a troop of lady dancers on wooden 'horses', then a Dragon Dance to greet the coming CHinese New Year. Other performances include a Magical Umbrella Dance and a nerve-wreaking nunchaku display. This guy even screamed like the Bruce Lee!
