The 25-year-old single malt was introduced in 2010 as the first official 25-year-old bottling with 43% ABV. And like all its malt brothers from Caol Ila, it is finely nuanced, light and extremely versatile. For a long time, Caol Ila only played second Islay fiddle behind Lagavulin at Diageo. Only with the deserved marketing as a top-class whiskey did Caol Ila slowly gain its status as a top-class distillery. The distillery was founded in 1846 in Port Askaig on Islay. But stood still for a few years over the decades. It was only reopened in 1974 after extensive renovation work.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose : surprisingly smooth, restrained smoky notes, a little medicinal, accompanied by sweet fruits, sea salt and creme brulee
  • Palate : dense, very soft texture, sweet honey notes in harmony with fruity nuances and mouth-filling smoky tones
  • Finish : long, warming, smoky and becoming drier
